Bandwidth

Definition:
In computer networking terms, bandwidth is a term used to indicate the data transfer rate of a specific communication medium. In other words, how much data, measured in bits, can be transferred from one point to another in a second. Bandwidth is usually indicated in bits per second or bps.
In internet hosting terms, bandwidth is more loosely used to indicate the amount of data transferred to and from a web site over a given period of time. Some web hosting companies will limit the amount of bandwidth allocated to a hosted web site over a period of a month. They will then charge “over bandwidth” usage fees when bandwidth usage goes over allotted amount.
